Election to the Legislative Council in Tanganyika 1958/1959
The election to the Legislative Council in Tanganyika 1958/1959 took place in September 1958 and February 1959.
The Tanganyika African National Union won 28 of the 30 elective seats on the Legislative Council , while the remaining 34 members were appointed.
In December 1959, the United Kingdom agreed to the establishment of internal self-government, which would take place after the new elections in 1960. The independence of the Republic of Tanganyika was then delayed until December 9, 1961.
