The Waikiki’s were Belgian studio musicians who were produced by the German Horst Fuchs, a former head of production at Ariola .
background
The group consisted of the pianist Willy Albimoor, the guitarist Jo Van Wetter, the bassist Jean Hunstadt and the drummers Jo De Muynck and Freddy Rottier.
With the instrumental piece Hawaii Tattoo , written by Martin Böttcher under the pseudonym Michael Thomas , they had great success first in Germany (1961) and years later in the USA (1964) and UK (1965). After two typical stragglers in Germany, the heat was over again.
