Waldau is a formerly independent village in the Black Forest , which has been part of the Titisee-Neustadt municipality in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district since 1973 .

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1111, the first documentary mention was made in 1178 in a papal deed. There has been a Catholic parish since 1807. Until secularization, Waldau was under the monastery in St. Peter .

In 1664 the Kreutz brothers built the very first Black Forest clock in the glass courtyard in Waldau. Clock making was very important in Waldau until the 19th century.

The village of Waldau is known today for tourism and winter sports and has several well-known ski lifts in the area . Today the place belongs to the Catholic pastoral care unit on the Titisee . Waldau shares its own primary school with the neighboring town of Langenordnach .

The Waldau Music Association, the Waldau Ski Club and the volunteer fire brigade are primarily responsible for the cohesion in the village community. The associations also attract many children and young people.

The historical novel When the Hour Strikes by Hans-Joachim Heilmann is partly set in Waldau.
