The diocese of Chiang Rai ( Latin Dioecesis Chiangraiensis , Thai : สังฆมณฑล เชียงราย ) is in Thailand situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Chiang Rai .

history

The Diocese of Chiang Rai was established on April 25, 2018 by Pope Francis from cession of territory from the Diocese of Chiang Mai and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bangkok as a suffragan . The first bishop was Joseph Vuthilert Haelom .

The Diocese of Chiang Rai comprises the provinces of Chiang Rai , Nan , Phayao and Phrae as well as the Amphoe Ngao of the Lampang province .
