Waldbad Langebrück

The Waldbad Langebrück is an outdoor swimming pool located in the Langebrück district of Dresden . Parts of the facility, which was inaugurated in 1912, including the ticket booth at the entrance, the kiosk, the refreshment hall and three historic changing rooms are under monument protection.

history

The first plans to build an air and outdoor pool in Langebrück came up around 1880, after the place had developed into a summer retreat at the gates of Dresden. In 1883, the Langebrück landowner Moritz Claus had a bath house set up for public use by a small pond. In 1906 the first official open-air swimming pool with a 250 m² swimming pool was built on Friedrich-August / Höntzschstraße.

However, since this bath was considered inadequate, the community shortly thereafter acquired several properties outside the town center on the edge of the Dresdner Heide . On June 23, 1912, the new bath was inaugurated as the Germaniabad . It got its name after the Dresden swimming club Germania , which regularly completed its training sessions here. The pool had areas for men and women separated by a wooden fence, gas-heated showers and a diving platform. In addition, a gondola rental was operated in the early years.

After the First World War , the bathroom was modernized a few times. For the first time, a family bathroom was set up, which men and women were allowed to use together. In 1926 a new diving tower was built , and in 1929 a paddling pool was built according to plans by the Dresden architect Paul Weisse . In the winter months, an ice rink was set up in the Germaniabad.

Since the name Germaniabad was no longer considered to be contemporary after 1945, it was officially renamed Waldbad Langebrück in 1952 . After 1990, extensive renovation and modernization measures were carried out in the forest pool, primarily to improve the water quality and make the pool more attractive. The former ladies bath has been used for biological self-cleaning of the water since 1993. In 2004, the Qualification and Employment Promotion Agency Dresden (QAD), a municipal subsidiary for the integration of the long-term unemployed, took over the Langebrücker Waldbad. Since its dissolution in 2012, it has once again been part of the city's sports facilities and swimming pools.
