Hütteldorf indoor swimming pool

The Hütteldorf indoor pool is owned by the City of Vienna and has been run for years by a private operator under the name of Waldbad Penzing . After it had been taken over and renovated by the City of Vienna, it was reopened on December 17, 2009 under the management of MA 44 - Pools .

history

The swimming pool in the 14th district of Penzing on Linzer Straße was built by the City of Vienna and leased to a private operator in 1998.

The bath was built between May 1994 and 1997 at a cost of 266 million shillings or 19.3 million euros, with a fire during the construction work delaying completion. However, management was not handed over to MA 44 - Pools, but to the private “ Tropicana Baths and Leisure Facilities ” for an annual lease of one shilling. Due to financial problems, the swimming pool known as Waldbad Penzing was closed on June 17, 2008. A citizens' initiative collected around 2,000 signatures for the reopening of the pool.

25 m sports pool

After the pool had already been rebuilt once after a fire and reopened in March 2005 after a one-year lock, it was implemented through a conversion costing around 3.7 million euros (demolition of the wave pool and instead construction of a 25-meter-long sports pool, an outdoor pool a modern energy concept, renewal of the roof structure and the water slide) prepared for the reopening under the name Hallenbad Hütteldorf , which took place on December 17, 2009.

The Waldbad Penzing replaced the municipal baths Baumgartner Bad and Hütteldorfer Bad , located near the Wien River .

On April 26, 2008, the bath was the scene of the first underwater soccer game between Austria and the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition to around 800 spectators on site, media representatives from both countries were also present. The sporting event was preceded by an underwater press conference attended by 25 journalists.
