Haselbach forest railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Haselbach forest railway was a forest railway in the local area of Fahrafeld . It was the only forest railway in the densely wooded catchment area of the Triesting Valley .

The single-track Waldbahn resulted from Forsthaus in the Long Valley designated Haselbach ditch . It was about 2.5 km long and had a 150 m branch stretch into the cross moat . Their track width was 600 mm.

The slope of the railway was so great that gravity was sufficient to carry the loaded wagons down into the valley. The empty freight wagons were brought back upstairs with oxen as draft animals . A gasoline-powered locomotive was allegedly in use for a short time .

The forest railway was only in operation from 1915 to 1918 in order to use its vehicles to transport wood from Simon von Wimpffen's property for the sawmill of the Berndorfer metal goods factory . Up to 20 people were employed on this forest railway. The former route can still be seen today.
