The forest shower on the forest district of South-Palatine municipality Gleisweiler ( Rheinland-Pfalz ) is a treatment baths of hewn sandstone blocks for the purpose of cold-water application . Located in the valley of the Hainbach , it is fed by its water. It is the only such facility preserved in Germany and is a listed building .
geography
The forest shower is located on the left slope next to the upper reaches of the Hainbach about 800 m above the point where the stream breaks through the Haardt , the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest , to the Rhine plain .
history
The building application for the facility was submitted to Mayor Heinrich Unger on March 3, 1847 by the doctor Ludwig Schneider, who had founded a hydrotherapy institute in Gleisweiler . The facility was completed by 1849 and - depending on the source situation - operated until 1870 or 1878. Later it was covered by soil when sliding down the mountainside and was forgotten. It was rediscovered in the summer of 1990 after part of the water supply had been found.
In January 1991, the then deceased mayor of Gleisweiler, Josef Götz, who became an honorary citizen of the community in 2001, started the excavation and reconstruction with volunteers. According to the text and photo documentation, the following people were among these helpers in addition to the mayor: Daniel Bendel, Edwin and Friedel Doerr, Klaus Dolisch, Gerhard Eberl, Franz Grimm, Karl Kaiser, Karl Knochel, Torsten Kühlmeyer, Frank and Jörg Nicklis, Robert Reiser, Ernst-Josef Roth, Michael Seckinger, Jürgen and Wolfgang Wadle, Rainer Weisenberger and Sven from Edenkoben .
On June 29, 1996, the facility was inaugurated and handed over to the general public for free use. The members of the association founded in May 1992 to rebuild the former forest shower maintain the shower.
investment
An 80 m long stone channel with a corresponding gradient brings the water of the Hainbach and delivers a strong, about 3 m deep jet with 8–12 ° C cold water that hits the left basin via a sandstone-brick structure, open at the top. The right one is designed as a wave pool and treading pool. The used water is taken up again by the nearby Hainbach. The facility, which is free to use, is open all year round, provided there is no persistent frost. In 2016 the 20th anniversary was celebrated.
Benches were created next to the facility and a small shelter was built.
