Waldemar de Brito

Waldemar de Brito (born May 17, 1913 in São Paulo ; † February 21, 1979 ibid) was a Brazilian soccer player who played for several clubs in Brazil and Argentina , as well as for the Brazilian national team. He is considered to be the discoverer of the football legend Pelé . He played in the position of the striker .

Club career

De Brito began his career at São Paulo FC . There he was in 1933 with 21 goals top scorer of the Torneio Rio-São Paulo . He later played for CA San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina until he moved back to Brazil to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro in 1936 , where he won the Rio de Janeiro National Championship in 1939 . In 1943 he went back to São Paulo to Associação Atlética Portuguesa Santista , where he ended his career in 1945.

National team

He made 18 appearances for Brazil and scored 18 goals. In 1934 he took part in the World Cup with Brazil .

After the active career

After his resignation, Waldemar de Brito became a talent scout for Bauru Atlético Clube . In the 1950s, he discovered a child named Edson Arantes do Nascimento , better known today as Pelé . He brought Pelé to Santos FC and prophesied that one day he would become the best footballer in the world.
