The nature trail is part of the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park . It borders the Wildeshausen arboretum and can be easily reached on foot or by bike from the Wildeshausen city center via hiking trail no.
Creation and expansion
The Lehmkuhlenwald in an area of 30 hectares is home to a multitude of different tree and wild herb species. Up until the beginning of the 20th century, clay and marl were mined here, two types of soil that were of great importance in processing: clay as a building material for houses and marl for fertilization. Today the Lehmkuhle is a local recreation area . In 1978, the Wildeshauser Naturfreunde created an educational forest trail in it with the support of the Ahlhorn State Forestry Office and the local hunters .
Structure of the educational trail
The nature trail is located in a wooded area and can be walked on in any weather or by bike. Information boards explain the individual tree species and their habitat to the visitor. The adjacent meadows and fields are clearly visible from a high seat on the edge of the forest. The path is about two kilometers long.
