Christ the King

The Catholic Church of Christ the King , a small hall church designed by Franz Salomon , is located at Zabel-Krüger-Damm 219 in the Berlin district of Lübars in the Reinickendorf district .

history

After the formation of Greater Berlin time were over rural Luebars next allotments and settlement houses emerged. In the 1930s, the Catholics who moved there were initially looked after by the Catholic Settlement Service for the outskirts and then by the Augustinians of the St. Rita Curate . In 1936 the curate acquired an allotment garden. The arbor on top was made into a chapel and consecrated on January 17, 1937.

After the Second World War , pastoral care was initially carried out from Waidmannslust. In 1948 the French city commandant succeeded in getting a barrack from military stocks, which was converted into a small hall church and consecrated in 1951.

The Curate of Christ the King has always belonged to the parish of Maria Gnaden in terms of property rights . On March 1, 2004, Christ the King and Mary Graces became the large community of Maria Graces. Parish church is the grace of Mary, Christ the King is “another place of worship”. Regina Mundi in Waidmannslust is canceled as a place of worship. The community belongs to the Reinickendorf deanery in the Archdiocese of Berlin .

Building description

The almost square wooden barrack with three window axes was erected above a brick basement for the community room . It was extended by three more window axes to make room for a retracted choir . It is enclosed on three sides by a small apartment . The entrance to the apartment is at the back. The building has a gently sloping gable roof . It is covered by the facade with two round windows facing the street .

tower

In the middle in front of it, a bell tower was built on a square floor plan , which is almost twice the height of the roof ridge . Its flat roof is located behind a dark parapet .

The round arched portal is located in the tower . Above it is the symbol of the patronage .

Bells

In the bell house hangs a chime with two bronze bells from the 18th century. The larger of the two had to be repaired in 2008.

In the choir there is a free brick altar and a wooden statue of Christ . In 1958 the barracks were renovated as masonry .
