Christine Goetz
Christine Goetz (born May 15, 1952 in Frankfurt am Main ; † March 6, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German art historian . From 1995 to 2017 she was art commissioner for the Archdiocese of Berlin .
Live and act
Christine Goetz grew up in Bonn and Brussels. She studied art history, German literature and archeology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1983, she was in Munich with Norbert Huse with studies on the topic "work" in the work of Constantin Meunier and Vincent van Gogh doctorate . She then worked for the Diocesan Museum in Freising .
From 1995 she worked as the art commissioner of the Archdiocese of Berlin, initially with a five-year contract for the inventory of church art in the parishes of the Archdiocese. In addition, she was responsible for issues relating to the preservation of monuments until 2017 and was active in adult education in the field of sacred art and architecture with church tours and publications that she designed. “My job was to create the cultural memory of the local church,” she said of her work. In addition to the inventory and the presentation of church art through lectures and publications, she initiated monthly church tours that will continue after her death.
In contact with many artists, she motivated and arranged numerous orders for the design of sacred art and the purchase of works by today's artists by the Archdiocese of Berlin. She retired at the beginning of December 2017. In addition, she worked on the commission for sacred art and church building of the archdiocese to the end.
