features

The beetles are 2.3 to 3.4 millimeters long and have a cylindrical body. They are brown in color and shiny and hairy gray. The pronotum is granular in front and heavily dotted with small depressions at the back. Seen from above, the pronotum covers the head. The suture angle of the wing coverts is indented in the male imago . In the male, the elytra is circular, with one sharp tooth each, and in the female with a smooth furrow and row of granules ( sexual dimorphism ). The antennae and tarsi are yellow, the legs are red-brown.

distribution

The species is widespread in southern, central and eastern Europe and in Denmark.

Way of life

The clematis bark beetle lives on clematis ( Clematis vitalba ) and Clematis orientalis . The larval ducts usually run along the shoot axis directly under the thin bark.
