The Waldtor is a listed group of buildings in the Althaldensleben district of the city of Haldensleben in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The group of houses, which is important in terms of urban development, is located at Waldstraße 2, 9 at the northwest end of Waldstraße. It narrows the forest road and spans the road like a gate.

Architecture and history

The two-storey group of buildings was built around the year 1800. Other information indicates the period of construction from the 1850s to the 1870s. The low ground floors are solid, the upper floors are half- timbered. Both buildings are connected across the street by a gable roof , which gives the complex its gate-like character.

In the past, the northeast building served as a guard and customs house on the Lüneburger Heerstraße that originally ran here . There was a barrier that could be passed after paying a road toll . In the building to the south-east, the Zur Einkehr hostel was housed. There was also a slaughterhouse at the front of the building . The rear part borders on the castle wall and was built into it. A beer and wine cellar was set up there.

Both buildings were later converted into residential buildings.

In the local register of monuments , the group of houses is registered under registration number 094 84421 as a monument .
