Waldviertler Heimatbund

The Waldviertler Heimatbund is an Austrian history association founded in 1951 , which is dedicated to researching the history of the Waldviertel and the Wachau in Lower Austria, which is partly part of the Waldviertel .

history

The Waldviertler Heimatbund was founded in 1951 in Krems an der Donau . As his goals he formulated the historical research of the Waldviertel and the Wachau, the organization of lectures, exhibitions and excursions on regional historical topics, the publication of a historical magazine and a series of publications as well as the creation of a library on the history and culture of the Waldviertel. The first president was Heinrich Rauscher , director of the teacher training institute in Krems. He was followed in 1960 by the historian Walter Pongratz . The historian Erich Rabl has been President of the Waldviertel Homeland Association since 1985 . The association is based in Horn .

Library

The Waldviertel Library of the Waldviertler Heimatbund, founded in 1951, is located in the Höbarthmuseum in Horn . Its holdings consist of the library of the museum, the private library of the second president of the Waldviertler Heimatbund, Walter Pongratz, who died in 1990, other donations as well as acquisitions and the exchange of documents between the Heimatbund and other historical societies and comprises around 7,000 volumes. It is open to the public.

magazine

Since 1952, the Waldviertler Heimatbund has published the historical magazine Das Waldviertel, which is currently published four times a year . Journal for local and regional studies of the Waldviertel and the Wachau with an annual volume of around 400 pages. In addition to specialist articles, it contains current cultural reports from the Waldviertel and the Wachau as well as book reviews. The range of topics ranges from history and art history to geography and natural science topics related to the Waldviertel and the Wachau. A local history journal with the same title was published between 1927 and 1938.

Series of publications

In the series of publications of the Waldviertler Heimatbund, 55 monographs relating to the Waldviertel and the Wachau, including the archeology of the Waldviertel, the economic history of the region and the robber captain Johann Georg Grasel , have appeared so far .
