Valentina Ivanovna Tscherewatenko (Russian Валентина Ивановна Череватенко , English Valentina Cherevatenko ; born January 20, 1956 ) is the head of the Russian non-governmental organization  » Women from Don «.

Life

Valentina Tscherewatenko studied political science and received her doctorate.

In 1993 she founded the non-governmental organization »Women from the Don« in Novocherkassk . This supports women in social, psychological, legal and other problems. Valentina Tscherewatenko offers seminars in which members of opposing conflict parties are brought into contact with one another. She organized seminars for victims of the Chechen war with Russian military personnel and by women from Ukraine and Russia. Valentina Tscherewatenko calls for social organizations to participate in the process of reconciliation between Ukraine and Russia. In the spring of 2016, she visited the Ukrainian fighter pilot Nadija Savchenko several times in the prison in Novocherkassk.

In June 2016, she was charged with failing to register her organization »Women from the Don« as a "foreign agent", as the Justice Department first requested in 2013. She is threatened with two years of imprisonment because she acted with “criminal intent” ( преступный умысел ). This sentence has not yet been threatened with any of the defendants in similar trials.
