Valery Alexandrovich Klimov

Valeri Alexandrowitsch Klimow (Russian: Валерий Александрович Климов, born October 16, 1931 in Kiev ) is a Russian violinist and violin teacher.

life and work

Klimow was born into a family of musicians in October 1931. He took his first musical lessons from his father, the conductor Alexander Klimow. From the age of seven (1938) he studied at the boarding school for musically gifted children in Odessa with PS Stoljarski, and since 1945 with BS Mordkowitsch. In 1951 he continued his studies with BS Fischman at the PI Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Kiev. In 1953 he moved to David Oistrakh at the PI Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow , where he completed his undergraduate studies in 1953 with honors and followed up with graduate training there until 1959.

In 1958 he won the first International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. From 1957 Klimov worked as a soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic .

From 1965 Klimov taught at the Moscow Conservatory and from 1974 he headed the violin department there. From 1989 he taught at the Saarbrücken Music Academy .
