Walhalla (Wettingen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Walhalla is a small cave on the southern slope of the Lägern in the area of the municipality of Wettingen . It is located in the rough terrain below the Lägernsattels, which stretches between the Wettingerhorn and Burghorn .

location

Descent to the Walhalla

The municipality's hiking guide does not provide any information on how to get to the cave. Officially, this is justified with the security, as the access is not safe. Apart from an old sign near the parking lot above the Mooshalde, there is no indication of access.

history

Originally there was only a crevice in the rock that was known to hunters and forest workers as early as the 19th century. Sources suggest that the crevice was widened before 1919. In the years after 1919 it was expanded by four young men. An inscription still testifies to this today: " BUILT IN 1920 MARS.MINERVA ACOLUS.VENUS 1931 COLUMBUS ". They also created a forecourt and secured the approach. On April 10, 1921, they named the cave Walhalla . Since 2002 there has been access from above via iron ladders, but the cave is also accessible from below.
