Walkers is a British and Irish food manufacturer specializing in the production of snacks , especially potato chips .

history

Henry Walker, who moved from Mansfield to Leicester in the 1880s , took over a long-established butcher shop there. The rationing of meat products after the Second World War resulted in unused capacities that they wanted to use for other purposes. As potato chips were enjoying increasing popularity, managing director RE Gerrard decided to run the business in this branch.

Walkers today

Walkers belongs to the Frito-Lay group , which in turn belongs to Pepsico . In the hometown of Leicester, the brand is omnipresent: the football stadium in the city, the Walkers Stadium was sponsored by the company, and a former football player from Leicester City , Gary Lineker , is the new face of the company.

In 2006, the company introduced nutritional information on packaging and announced that it would reduce the saturated fat content of its products by 70 percent. According to official figures, around 11 million people eat a Walkers product every day. The company employs over 5,500 people at 13 locations.
