Location of Walkershofen in Bavaria

Walkershofen is a district of the municipality of Simmershofen in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district in Central Franconia .

The place is south of the core town of Simmershofen. The St 2256 runs not far to the north, the A 7 runs 3.5 km to the east. The state border with Baden-Württemberg runs to the west.

history

The place is named after a Franconian noble Walgar around the middle of the 8th century. In 1284 a Hiltebrandus from Walgarshove was mentioned in a document. In 1447 the Lochinger von Archshofen took over the property. Philipp Christoph von Echter lived in Walkershofen Castle around 1615 and expanded the medieval castle into a splendid Renaissance castle. The property passed through different hands and finally came into the possession of the Barons von Würtzburg , who renovated the castle.
