Walking is a 1969 Canadian animated short directed by Ryan Larkin .

action

The outline of a steadily running man with his hands in his pockets appears. People standing or sitting at bus stops, in cars or cafes can be seen and are replaced by other people walking. Various drawing techniques are used to depict people walking, always crossing the white background. Leisurely striding of a man and the running of a child and a young woman are shown and everything is different from the movement of a group of barefoot boys or veiled women in long dresses. Other people run, do somersaults or move on in dancing forms, turn or falter while running, and then move on more quickly. A group of people of different ages and sizes follows, crossing the white surface together. At the end, the outline of the steadily running man can be seen again, slowly approaching and filling the screen.

production

Walking , French distribution title En marchant , was released on December 21, 1969. The film does not contain any dialogues. The different running styles are animated using different painting techniques, including watercolor and ink. Excerpts from Walking were used for the semi-biographical animated film Ryan , which revolves around the life of Ryan Larkins and won an Oscar in 2005.

Awards

Walking was nominated for an Oscar in the category “ Best Animated Short Film ” in 1970, but could not prevail against It's Tough to Be a Bird .

Larkin received a CIDALC Award at the Krakowski Festiwal Filmowy in 1969.
