Wallburg is a district of Ettenheim in the Ortenaukreis ( Baden-Württemberg ). The small town is located east of Ettenheim between grapevines and the Black Forest.
history
Wallburg is mentioned for the first time in 1226 in the papal document of Honorius III. mentioned under the name "Valberc". In 1728 Wallburg came into the possession of the Nassau lords and became Baden in 1803. Wallburg became part of Ettenheim on July 1, 1971 through the municipal reform. Wallburg used to be known as the "village of the shingle makers ", but today viticulture plays an important role due to the favorable hillside location.
Village structure
Wallburg is traditionally divided into Oberdorf, Unterdorf and Hinterdorf, whereby the new building area adjoining the Unterdorf to the north should be mentioned as the fourth part. This constantly growing part is called "paradise" by the locals. The first street in the new development area is therefore also called “In Paradise”.
regional customs
The Alemannic carnival "Fasend" plays a major role in Wallburg . The local fools guild is called "Wild Christians". In addition to "Narri Narro", "Wilde Christen" (pronounced Alemannic: "Wildi Chrischde") is also the usual battle cry at Mardi Gras parades.
There is a lively club life in Wallburg. In addition to the fools' guild, there is also the “Bergeneck” choral society, the local music band and the church choir as well as the SC Wallburg. Besides the sports club, youth work is mainly in the hands of the acolytes . Since 2007 there has been a youth center "One Point" in Wallburg which supports local youth work.
