Wallstrasse (Riga)

The Wall Street ( Latvian Vaļņu iela ) is a street in the Latvian capital Riga .

It is located in Riga's old town and leads from Straße des 13 January (Latvian 13th janvāra iela ) in the south of the old town in a north or north-west direction, crosses Weberstraße ( Audēju iela ), Kalkstraße ( Kaļķu iela ) and flows into it Finally about 650 meters at the powder tower of the Riga city fortifications in the Sandstrasse ( Smilšu iela ).

The road runs along the former course of the eastern ramparts of Riga. At the end of the 18th century the name was Barracks Street ( Kazarmu ielu ) after several barracks that were located there. The current name has been used since the early 19th century.

The bank building Wallstrasse 11 is registered in the Latvian register of monuments. There is a memorial plaque for the architect Herbert Tiemer on Wallstrasse 3 .
