Walter Bülck (born March 7, 1891 in Altona ; † April 20, 1952 there ) was a German theologian .

Life

Walter Bülck became pastor in Kellinghusen in 1916 . As a student of the liberal theologian Otto Baumgarten , Bülck completed his habilitation in 1921 for practical theology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . Bülck represented liberal views and joined the German People's Party in 1919 , which he left three years later.

In 1925 Bülck was given a teaching position for Schleswig-Holstein and Nordic church studies at the University of Kiel. In 1931 he became the holder of the chair for practical theology . From 1932 he held the academic services.

After the NSDAP came to power in 1933 , Bülck was severely attacked in the organ of the Kiel student body, the "Schleswig-Holstein University Gazette". This had been committed to National Socialism since the late 1920s . He was insulted as "liberals", "democrats" and "Baumgarten students" and his wife because of her non-Aryan descent. A lawsuit against the assertion of his college colleague Hermann Mandel that Bülck would oppose the NS claim to totality with that of Christianity was successful. Nevertheless, in 1936 he was forced to move to the Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald .

After the war, Bülck returned to Hamburg to teach the history of religion at the University of Hamburg . At the same time he took over a pastor's position in the Hamburg district of Altona . An application for retirement was rejected, which is why Bülck taught in Hamburg until his death on April 20, 1952.
