Walter Baier (journalist)
Walter Baier (born December 19, 1929 in Worms ; † March 3, 2000 in Berlin ) was a German science journalist . He was also involved in professional journalistic associations at German and European level.
Live and act
Baier graduated from high school in Worms. He then worked briefly in a leather factory to earn money for his planned studies. From 1951 he studied Romance and English at the University of Mainz . With a grant from the French state, he studied temporarily in Lille from 1953. He did his doctorate in Mainz. From 1955 he continued to study physics at the University of Geneva, where he acquired the title of "Licensié èssciences".
In 1957 he was co-editor of the scientific encyclopedia “L'ère atomique”, which was called “Epoche Atom und Automation” in the German edition and which was also translated into Italian and Spanish. In 1960 he married Edith Leonhardt, in the same year he moved to Berlin. Since 1962 he was the editor of the then important magazine " hobby" .
From 1971, Baier was a member of the Technical-Literary Society (TELI), in which he later held several offices. For 12 years he was a member of the board of TELI and commissioner for the European science journalists association EUSJA. In 1992 he was made an honorary member of TELI.
