Walter Binder (artist)

Walter Binder (born August 1, 1909 in Zurich ; † July 15, 1968 there ) was a Swiss wood cutter , illustrator , commercial artist , book designer and teacher at the Zurich School of Applied Arts .

life and work

After an apprenticeship as an advertising artist , Binder attended the Zurich School of Applied Arts for further graphic training. In 1930/1931 he worked as a commercial artist in Berlin . After his return, Binder worked as a commercial artist in Zurich. Study visits to France and Italy followed . From 1940 Binder turned to book design and illustration and subsequently to free graphics. From 1941 he was a teacher at the Zurich School of Applied Arts.
