Walter Brauneis

Walter Brauneis (born April 24, 1920 in Linz ; † August 15, 2000 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and trade unionist. From 1956 to 1978 he was a member of the National Council .

Life

Brauneis completed a vocational school after primary and secondary school and served between 1940 and 1945 in World War II. After his return from the war, Brauneis entered the service of VÖEST and completed the foremen's school for gas and water pipe installation there for two years. In addition to his work as a plumber, Brauneis was involved as a works council and was elected central works council chairman of VÖEST Alpine AG in 1952. In addition, in 1956 he became regional chairman of the metalworkers' union and its federal deputy chairman. Brauneis also worked between 1954 and 1978 as a member of the supervisory board of VOEST as well as director of the ÖIAG board of directors of the chamber for workers and salaried employees for Upper Austria . He was also a member of the supervisory board of several industrial companies in Austria. Brauneis was a member of the Linz municipal council between 1949 and 1959 and represented the SPÖ in the National Council between June 8, 1959 and April 17, 1978, where he was chairman of the nationalization committee. Within the party, Brauneis was a member of the SPÖ district executive and SPÖ district committee in Linz as well as the state party executive.
