career

Amateur, until 1952

With the TuS Konz 09 Walter Brech won the title in the amateur league Rhineland in 1950 and 1951 and qualified for the 2nd league southwest of the round 1951/52. With the Green-Whites, the versatile Brech rose to bottom of the table in the summer of 1952. In the case of national coach Sepp Herberger , the man from Konz made it into the squad for the amateur national team to be formed despite the disappointing course of the round with his club . On June 8, 1952 Walter Brech came as a left defender in the international match of the DFB amateurs in Munich against Austria at the side of captain Hans Eberle to use. The German team won the game after goals from Kurt Sommerlatt and Georg Stollenwerk with 2-0 goals. Brech was part of the DFB squad for the 1952 Summer Games in Helsinki in July / August, but was not used at the tournament. For the round 1952/53 he became a contract player and surprisingly switched to VfR Mannheim in the Oberliga Süd and not to Eintracht Trier in the Oberliga Südwest.

VfR Mannheim, 1952/53

The newcomer from the Moselle made his debut in fifth place in the 1951/52 round immediately on the first match day of the 1952/53 round in the Oberliga Süd. In the 3-0 home win on August 24, 1952, the Mannheim lawn athletes against FC Bayern Munich , Brech made his debut in the defense of VfR Mannheim. What had started so happily, however, developed in the course of the round into a dogged fight for VfR to stay in the league. The new coach Radoslav Momirski was replaced on February 1, 1953 by Ludwig Tretter and the team from the stadium to the breweries was able to manage to keep the league at the end of the round with 13th place. This despite the acknowledged good line-up of strikers with Baßler, Langlotz, de la Vigne, Löttke and stepfather. After a round in Mannheim, Brech signed after 25 missions with a goal for Mannheim in the 1953/54 round at Eintracht Trier and thus moved back to his immediate home.

Eintracht Trier, 1953 to 1960

During the first four years of Brech in Trier, Fritz Walter's team, 1. FC Kaiserslautern , won the championship in the southwest in a row from 1954 to 1957. Brech and his teammates - goalkeeper Walter Budscheidt and playmaker Klaus Müller - on the other hand, had to be satisfied with double-digit places. The veteran experienced his best placement at the age of 32 in the 1958/59 season when he reached 8th place. In the storm, Elmar May and Paul Pidancet had brought fresh momentum. After seven rounds of Oberliga Südwest, Walter Brech ended his career in 1960 with 168 appearances and 19 goals for Eintracht Trier.
