Walter Dürig (officer)

Walter Dürig (born January 27, 1927 in Jegenstorf ; † July 21, 2019 in Zurich ) was a Swiss officer ( corps commander ). From 1987 to 1989 he was in command of the Swiss Air Force .

Life

Walter Dürig attended the Burgdorf technical center from 1945 to 1948 , where he was trained as a telecommunications engineer ( graduate HTL engineer ). From 1948 to 1950 he worked for Standard Telephon und Radio AG in Basel.

From 1951 to 1965 he was an instruction officer for the air force . From 1966 to 1973 he was head of a section in the Federal Office for Military Airfields BAMF. Then he was an adjunct in the General Staff Service. From 1979 to 1983 he was director of the Federal Office for Military Airfields BAMF and at the same time commander of the airfield brigade 32. From 1984 to 1986 he was chief of command and operations in the command of the air and flab troops (FF Trp) and from January 1, 1987 to December 31, 1989 as corps commander in command of the Swiss Air Force.

Walter Dürig was active as a journalist and ran a website with a large archive of articles on the history of the Air Force. The history of the BAMF is presented on another website.
