Walter Delius (theologian)
Walter Delius (born December 28, 1899 in Glauchau , † May 11, 1972 in Berlin ) was a German Protestant theologian and church historian .
After the war, Delius studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Halle and Tübingen and then graduated from the Cathedral Candidate Foundation in Berlin . After his doctorate phil. in 1924 Delius worked as a pastor in Ammendorf near Halle. In 1928 he received his doctorate in Lic. Theol. and moved to the parish of the Christophorus congregation in Berlin-Friedrichshagen . Here he joined the Confessing Church and often had arguments with the Gestapo. In 1937 he was taken into protective custody for three weeks. In 1945 he was initially a part-time lecturer in church history at the Church University of Berlin-Zehlendorf , where he received a full professorship in 1949.
Delius' main research interests were the early Middle Ages, the Reformation and the church history of Berlin-Brandenburg.
The theological faculty in Halle awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1954.
His son Hans-Ulrich Delius was also a professor of church history.
