Walter Frieda Hans Grootaers (born January 27, 1955 in Soest , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a Belgian singer, television presenter and politician.

Grootaers belonged to the band De Kreuners for many years , from the formation in 1978 until the breakup in 2012 he was the lead singer of the group.

In autumn 2000 he hosted the first season of the Flemish version of Big Brother . As part of this, he made it to number 1 in the Flemish single charts twice: First he played on the title song Leef by the band Mozaïek , later he interpreted the title Een brief voor with the group De Bewoners , which included all the Big Brother candidates Kerstmis .

Grootaers also moderated other TV shows, most recently for Vlaamse Televisie Maatschappij . These included Wie wordt Multimiljonair , later Wie wordt Euromiljonair , the Flemish adaptation of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? , but also Singing Bee and WipeOut .

Grootaers is also politically active, so he holds one of the positions of aldermen in his hometown of Lier . In 2007 he ran for the Belgian Chamber of Deputies , in 2012 for the Council of the Province of Antwerp , but failed to make it in both cases.
