Walter Heiler (born May 28, 1954 in Kirrlach , now part of the city of Waghäusel ) is a German SPD politician and has been mayor since 1999 and mayor of Waghäusel since 2013. Between 1992 and 2001 as well as 2006 and 2016 he was also a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg .

education and profession

After primary school in Kirrlach and the Abitur in Schwetzingen in 1973, Walter Heiler studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . After a legal traineeship and two exams, he started his own business as a lawyer in 1981. He carried out this activity until he was elected mayor of Waghäusel .

Political activity

Walter Heiler joined the SPD in 1979 and was chairman of the local association in Waghäusel from 1980 to 1999 and also a local council there. Since 1984 he has been a member of the district council in the Karlsruhe district . In 1999 he was elected mayor of the city of Waghäusel and was re-elected on March 11, 2007. Since 1992, with a voluntary interruption from 2001 to 2006, he has been a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg , where he represented the Bruchsal constituency . Heiler was a member of the interior committee and at the same time the local political spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. On October 14, 2009, the Interior Committee of the state parliament unanimously elected Walter Heiler as its new chairman; he continued to hold this office in the 15th electoral term from 2011. In 2013, Heiler was promoted to Lord Mayor after Waghäusel was classified as a major district town. When he was confirmed in office for the first time in a mayoral election on March 15, 2015, this meant that he refrained from running for the next state election.

Family and private

Walter Heiler is Catholic, married and has two children.

In his free time he works as a musician. He is the pianist and musical director of the Spraddl singers , who have become known far beyond the Baden region, not least because of their numerous appearances at ceremonial television meetings. On October 11, 2009, the Spraddl singers said goodbye to their fans with a performance in the Rheintalhalle Kirrlach and announced the end of their 30th anniversary.
