Walter Kempowski Prize for Biographical Literature

The Walter Kempowski Prize for Biographical Literature of the State of Lower Saxony is a literary prize that has been awarded in honor of the writer Walter Kempowski since 2019 .

The prize is awarded to authors who, through their literary work, depict the influences and effects of contemporary events on their individual biography. The prize can be awarded for an individual work, but also for the entire work of authors. It is endowed with 20,000 euros. In addition, the winners will be given a reading tour of the Lower Saxony literary houses , during which they can present their work to a wider public.

The award is made by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture . It is awarded every two years, alternating with the Nicolas Born Prize . Publishers can suggest German-speaking authors.
