Walter Knauer
Walter Knauer (born June 21, 1937 in Thann ; † July 27, 2013 in Neustadt bei Coburg ) was a Bavarian state politician ( SPD ). From 1986 to 1998 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament . He was elected as the Upper Franconian list candidate of his party.
As a voluntary functionary of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt, he played a key role in the reconstruction of the workers' welfare in Thuringia in 1989 and 1990 and founded the AWO in the GDR together with general practitioner Renate Greiner and social manager Edmund Fröhlich on February 18, 1990 in Sonneberg - 57 years after its ban The Nazis.
At the beginning of February 2009 Knauer publicly toyed with the idea of running for the Left Party as a direct candidate in the Coburg-Kronach district. He decided against it after Uwe Hiksch was elected as a direct candidate.
