Thann is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Neustadt bei Coburg in the Coburg district .

location

The old town of Thann is located on the southwestern heights of the Neustadt basin, about three kilometers from Neustadt. The more recent developments from the middle of the 20th century were built east of the old town center.

history

Thann was first mentioned in 1317 in the Urbarium , a list of possessions of the Henneberger when the New Rulership was acquired. The name of the place can be derived from a single fir tree . Lying in the domain of the Hennebergers , Thann came to the Wettins in inheritance with the Coburg Land in 1353 and was thus part of the Electorate of Saxony from 1485 , from which the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg later emerged.

During the Thirty Years War billeting and looting led to famine. In 1638 four of eleven buildings were destroyed and of 40 cattle before the war, only one was still alive.

The children went to school in Neustadt until 1780, then in Haarbrücken . From 1839 the Thanner parish hall was also used as a schoolhouse for the Thanner and Haarbrücker children and was finally replaced by a new building that was inaugurated on October 7, 1862. In 1951 the building, which had been a single class up to that point, was expanded to accommodate another class. More than a hundred pupils finally caused the communities to build a new building in Haarbrücken, which was used from 1961.

In a referendum on November 30, 1919, two citizens of Thanner voted for the Free State of Coburg to join the Thuringian state and 57 against. From July 1, 1920, Thann belonged to the Free State of Bavaria .

Seven Thanner soldiers each lost their lives in World War I and World War II.

In 1964, a Protestant subsidiary parish of Neustadt was established in Haarbrücken, which in addition to Haarbrücken also looked after Thann and Ketschenbach . Four years later the parish became independent.

On May 1, 1978 Thann was incorporated into Neustadt.

The drinking water supply used to be through house wells. In 1964, some properties were connected to the municipality's own network, and from 1971 the water supply was provided by the Neustadt municipal utilities. From 1922, the electricity supplier was the Coburg overland plant . On January 1, 1972, Stadtwerke Neustadt took over the power supply. In 1987 Thann had 87 residential buildings, 66 of which were built after 1949. The new buildings were built from 1958 in the areas of Böhläcker and Stadtäcker, also on Brunnhügel and Kiefernböhl and along Eichener and Thanner Straße.
