Fürth am Berg (officially: Fürth a.Berg ) is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Neustadt bei Coburg in the Coburg district .

location

Fürth am Berg is about fourteen kilometers east of Coburg an der Steinach . The district boundary corresponds to the Bavarian state border with Thuringia in the east . State road 2708 from Mitwitz to Neustadt runs through the village, state road 2206 begins in Fürth and ends in Weißenbrunn vorm Wald .

history

Fürth am Berg was first mentioned in 1317 in the Urbarium , a list of possessions of the Hennebergers when they acquired the New Rulership , as a "ford". The place was created on the old trade route Nuremberg - Leipzig at a ford through the Steinach. A castle first mentioned in 1348 was about 100 meters above the village. It served as a protective and official castle of the Bamberg Monastery. In 1660 the residence in the castle was given up and an office building was established in the village. The Upper Mill, which was demolished in 1987, was mentioned as a Bamberg fief as early as 1492 .

Fürth was a fiefdom of the bishopric of Bamberg , but belonged to the Coburg foster family . This gave rise to disputes that a 1601 recession could not end. In a state treaty from 1811 negotiated between Bavaria's Prime Minister Maximilian von Montgelas and Prince Leopold von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld , Fürth was finally awarded Coburg.

The Fürth children initially went to Mupperg to attend the secondary school there, which was mentioned as early as 1569. There is evidence of a pre-formulation school in Fürth for the year 1781. The schoolhouse was initially in the same building as the poor house. In 1860 the pre-formulation school became a state institution. In 1877 the community built a new, single-storey schoolhouse with a bell tower, which was rebuilt and extended in 1950. The Fürth children have been attending schools in Neustadt since 1971.

In 1878 the innkeeper Löffler set up his own brewing pan. From this the Schelhorn brewery developed from 1892, which served its beer in the “Zum Coburger Hof” inn. The following owner, Carl Eibl, closed the brewery in 1905.

In the First World War and in the Second World War, of 16 Fürth lost their lives. In a referendum on November 30, 1919, four citizens of Fürth voted for the Free State of Coburg to join the Thuringian state and 100 against. From July 1, 1920, Fürth also belonged to the Free State of Bavaria .

In 1920 Fürth received a connection to the railway network with the Steinachtalbahn . On February 21 and April 8, 1945, American low-flying aircraft attacked the station and damaged the station building, among other things. After the Second World War, the location on the inner-German border shaped the town until 1989 . Due to the border, the Steinachtalbahn ended in Fürth and was finally dismantled in 1989.

Fürth originally belonged to the district of the Thuringian parish Mupperg . As a result of the inner-German border , the Fechheim parish came into being in 1948 . In 1968 the place got its own parish hall.

In 1960, Fürth won a fountain designed by the Munich sculptor Karl Braun as the second prize in the “The more beautiful village” competition. The fountain figuratively depicts the motto “We are all in the same boat”.

On July 1, 1967, the neighboring municipality of Horb was incorporated. On January 1, 1971, Fürth merged with the previously independent municipalities of Aicha , Fechheim , Mittelwasungen , Plesten and Unterwasungen to form the municipality of Wasung. Wasung was dissolved on January 1, 1976 and Fürth was incorporated as a district into Neustadt bei Coburg.

The drinking water supply used to be through house wells and two running wells. A community-owned system with house connections existed from May 1, 1936. After July 1, 1978 water was supplied by the Spittelsteiner Group, which was taken over in 1986 by the Neustadt municipal utilities. From May 1, 1910, the electricity suppliers were the Gumpertschen mill in Mupperg and, from November 1, 1931, the Upper Franconia Bamberg overland plant. In 1997 Stadtwerke Neustadt took over the power supply. In 1987 Fürth had 102 residential buildings, 46 of which were built after 1949.
