Walter Kratner
Walter Kratner (* 1954 in Graz ) is an Austrian artist .
He studied design and art history in Florence . The academic training was followed by long stays in Switzerland ( Bern ) and the USA . Upon invitation, he realized projects for the “Carl Djerassi Art Program” and for the Exploratorium in San Francisco .
Social and personal amnesia preoccupy this artist. Often it is historical photographs darkened with coal dust that prove the decay of the memory image. He was commissioned by the diocese of Graz-Seckau with the artistic design of the Weizer Taborkirche and is currently u. a. Curator for “art on the spiritual path” and “pfingstArt” in Weiz .
In May 2012 Kratner designed a memorial next to the Weizberg Church to commemorate the systematic murder of the Roma and Sinti during the Nazi era .
