Walter Kütz
Walter Kütz (born December 16, 1957 in Aachen ) is a German sculptor .
Life
He initially studied biology and geology and then switched to Klaus Rinke's class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1981 to 1987 . Here he becomes a master student in 1987. In 1988 he was awarded the Villa Romana Prize, in 1990 the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff grant and in 1994 the HAP Grieshaber grant. After short stays in Naples, Brussels and Verviers (Belgium), Walter Kütz has lived in Berlin since 1990. Since his participation in the group exhibition "Deep Views" Art of the 1980s from the Federal Republic of Germany, the GDR, Austria and Switzerland in the Landesmuseum Darmstadt in 1985 he has been discussed nationally, since his work "Origin of Species" from 1990 also internationally. At the beginning of his artistic work he used natural materials such as wood, textiles, feathers, tar and wax. Plaster of paris and rubber have been added since the mid-1990s. At first he used discarded textiles such as coats and shirts to shape animal heads. Later he begins to pile up living mosses in glass containers to form huge sculptures. Large wax and rubber casts follow.
