Walter Lurgenstein

Walter Lurgenstein (born November 17, 1906 in Koblenz ; † November 13, 1964 ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary schools in Koblenz and Husum to Lurgenstein 1929-30 made at the Workers Community College in Harrisleefeld continued and then worked as a tailor. After the National Socialists came to power, he was briefly taken into “ protective custody ”, then banned from working and placed under police supervision. He was temporarily unemployed before retraining as a projectionist in 1935. From 1940 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier .

Political party

Lurgenstein joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) in 1919 and was later SAJ chairman in Husum. In 1925 he joined the SPD, which was banned by the National Socialists in 1933. After 1945 he rejoined the Social Democrats, for whom he had worked as a full-time district and sub-district secretary since March 1946. From 1947 to 1950 he was chairman of the SPD district association Husum, was a member of the district executive committee from 1957 to 1964 and was elected to the state executive committee of the SPD Schleswig-Holstein .

MP

Lurgenstein was appointed member of the council of ten of the city of Husum in 1946 and was elected to the district council of the Husum district in 1948 . He was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament from 1958 until his death.
