The Schleswig-Holstein State Fire Brigade School in Harrislee near Flensburg is an institution of the State of Schleswig-Holstein . In particular, it is intended to ensure the training of the next generation of managers in the volunteer fire brigades and management training in disaster control . The tasks of the state fire brigade school as an institution with no legal capacity are regulated in Section 18 of the Fire Protection Act.

Locations

The state fire brigade school has two locations in Harrislee. On the one hand, the old school building at Süderstrasse 46 in the Harrisleefeld district and, on the other hand, the approximately four hectare practice area at Am Oxer. The practice area has a more than 1,800 square meter practice hall, a respiratory protection training facility and course rooms, as well as electrified track systems, a fire training area and training houses in the outside area. In addition, since 2009 the cooperative regional control center north for the districts of North Frisia and Schleswig-Flensburg as well as for the city of Flensburg has been located on the Am Oxer training area .

history

Establishment of the provincial fire brigade school

In 1927/28 a school building was built in Süderstrasse as an educational facility for workers and employees. The said workers' adult education center was closed by the National Socialists in 1933. In 1936 the "Provincial Fire Brigade School" was set up in the building. The first course took place in October 1936.

Building use during the Second World War

From 1940 onwards, teaching was suspended. In the last days of the Second World War , numerous Nazi criminals set out on the Rattenlinie Nord in the direction of Flensburg, since the last Reich government was established there in the suburb of Mürwik . Between April 29 and May 3, the main office of the Orpo quartered under Alfred Wünnenberg in the fire brigade school. How many people the main office of the Orpo consisted of at that time and what activities it still carried out there is largely unknown. Apparently it tried primarily to restore its ability to work by registering dispersed police officers. Even Heinrich Himmler went to Flensburg, adhere to the last national government in the special area Mürwik to participate, which he failed. Himmler apparently stayed in various places around the city of Flensburg, as a continuous stay in the city was too dangerous for him. In the period from May 3 to May 6, 1945, Himmler also went to the fire brigade school, where he gave a speech on the training area on the subject of the “Victory and Renewal of the Greater German Reich”. In the fire brigade school, Himmler also received a fire brigade uniform, which he apparently wore from time to time. By the way, Himmler left the Flensburg area again on May 11, 1945 at the latest and fled further south to the Lower Saxony area , where he was finally captured by British soldiers and died shortly afterwards on May 23, 1945 in Lüneburg by suicide .

New beginning

In 1948 the state fire brigade school was relocated to a barracks in Eckernförde in the Carlshöhe barracks . Because of the cramped conditions there, the school moved back to its old location in Harrislee in 1954. This was expanded over time, but its size and location were increasingly unsuitable for practice. In 1999 the completely new exercise facility was finally built in the Am Oxer industrial park.

Tasks and achievements

In addition to the legal tasks of “ providing the members of the volunteer fire brigades , in particular the next generation of managers, with thorough specialist training through leadership and special courses, as well as conducting management training in disaster control”, the state fire brigade school performs other tasks. This includes supplementary courses (such as workshops for local politicians) or training for self-help workers and fire protection workers.

The scope of services of the state fire brigade school also includes online training courses to prepare for leadership courses or an interactive online dialogue for creating fire brigade requirement plans.

In 2012, the state fire brigade school received EUR 2.1 million from the fire protection tax for running costs. There was also EUR 0.6 million for maintenance and expansion and EUR 0.4 million for repayments. In addition, the fire service providers received EUR 1.5 million in allocations for attending courses.
