Walter Murauer

Walter Murauer (born August 2, 1948 in Steyr ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

Walter Murauer attended primary and secondary school and then a commercial vocational school.

Between 1967 and 1975 he worked for the Raiffeisenbank in Garsten and then from 1975 to 1978 city party secretary of the ÖVP Steyr. In 1978 he was promoted to district party secretary of the ÖVP Steyr-Land , in 1988 he switched back to the private sector. He has been employed by the Upper Austrian Insurance Company since 1988 .

politics

Walter Murauer was district chairman of the Young ÖVP Steyr-Land between 1973 and 1979 and regional chairman of the Young People's Party of Upper Austria between 1974 and 1980 . He has been a member of the Garsten parish council since 1973 and was elected to the parish council in 1983. Since 1987 he has also been district party chairman of the ÖVP Steyr-Land.

Walter Murauer was a member of the National Council for the first time between November 29, 1991 and October 28, 1999. From February 8, 2000 to October 27, 2008 he again represented the ÖVP in parliament. Murauer has been a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO and WEU since 1999 and has been their head of delegation since 2002. Murauer has been defense spokesman for the ÖVP since November 15, 2000.
