Walter Noll (chemist)

Walter Friedrich Heinrich Noll (born March 9, 1907 in Jena ; † November 1987 in Leverkusen ) was a German chemist and mineralogist who mainly dealt with the chemistry of silicates and silicones .

Life

Noll received his doctorate in mineralogy from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 1930 . In 1937 he received his doctorate in chemistry from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He was a chemist at Bayer AG in Leverkusen and headed silicone research there for two decades. Noll was also honorary professor for mineralogy and petrography at the University of Cologne . After his retirement, he mainly dealt with ancient ceramics and pigments.

The Colloid Society awarded him the Wolfgang Ostwald Prize in 1971. The German Mineralogical Society elected him an honorary member in 1981.
