Walter Pass

Walter Pass (born January 22, 1942 in Feldkirch , Vorarlberg ; † March 7, 2001 in Tullnerbach , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian musicologist.

Pass studied music education, conducting, piano and singing at the Vienna Music Academy (1960–1964). A year later he also took musicology at the University of Vienna and graduated with a Dr. phil. from. He became an assistant at the musicological institute there in 1964, and his habilitation followed in 1973.

He was then granted a scholarship for research in Rome from 1974 to 1977. As the successor to Franz Zagiba, he has taught early music history as a full professor at the University of Vienna since 1981.

Pass was buried at the Hernalser Friedhof (group 24, number 24) in Vienna.
