Walter Anatole Persich

Walter Anatole Persich (actually: Walter Willi Karl Persich, born July 5, 1904 in Hamburg ; † May 23, 1955 ) was a German writer.

Life

Persich, who partly published under the pseudonym Christoph Walter Drey , wrote mainly short stories and novels. His books were often set in the Hanseatic milieu, against a nautical background or in exotic worlds. In many cases, the stories were based on actual historical events or the lives of well-known people. Due to his chatty style, the works were successful and were often printed in several editions. Some books saw new editions even in the post-war period. Persich stayed in Germany during the National Socialist period and described himself as an "apolitical" person. However, at the time of the World War he also published books with a propaganda tendency (“ Winston Churchill very 'private' - adventurer, lord, criminal”, “ Zaharoff the demon of Europe”). At the beginning of the 1950s, Persich and others founded the Paul Abraham Committee in Hamburg to promote the return of the seriously ill composer Paul Abraham from exile in America.
