Walter Pollard (born September 26, 1906 in Burnley , † April 16, 1945 ibid) was an English football player.

Career

Pollard signed a professional contract with Burnley FC at the age of 17 in September 1924 , after he had previously been able to draw attention to himself in the Burnley Sunday School League . In 1929, the half-forward moved to West Ham United and came mainly in 1932/33, after relegation to the Football League Second Division , to regular appearances. This season he reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup with the club , in which they were defeated by Everton 1: 2.

In 1933 Pollard moved to the French Division 1 , where he joined FC Sochaux . After a year he returned to England because he could not cope with the "Gallic temperament" and probably also because in France's professional class from the 1934/35 season the maximum number of foreigners per team was reduced to three. After a season in the second division with Southampton FC , he let his career at Brighton & Hove Albion end. He found a job at the Ilford power station and coached the works team there. He died of a heart attack in 1945.
