Walter Riedel (politician, 1897)

Walter Riedel (born May 12, 1897 in Driesen , † September 20, 1949 in Richelsdorf ) was a German local politician. He was mayor of Werl from January 20, 1943 to April 8, 1945 and acting mayor of Iserlohn from April 27, 1933 to the end of 1933. He was a member of the NSDAP .

Life

From 1914 to 1920 he did military service. In 1933, Riedel was an official of the Arnsberg district government and mayor of Iserlohn as senior government secretary. As a member of the NSDAP and the SA , he was appointed acting mayor of Iserlohn after the beginning of National Socialist rule . During his tenure, the SA took action against political opponents. He held this office for a few months. From 1943 to 1945 he was mayor of Werl.

Riedel replaced Richard Klewer in office , who took on a new role in Iserlohn . On April 8, 1945, the American troops took Werl. Riedel was driven through Steinerstrasse with rifle butts to the cheering of the population and then driven through the streets while sitting on the radiator of a jeep .
