Walter Salzmann (rower)

Walter Salzmann (born June 1, 1922 - † January 27, 2020 ) was a German rower .

He joined the Mannheim rowing club Amicitia at the age of 15 . As the helmsman of the eighth he was German runner-up in 1938. During World War II he was in the Navy. After the war he rowed himself and came third at the German championships in 1951 with the four-man without a helmsman . His greatest success was winning the Mannheim eighth at the German Championships in 1953 in his home town of Mühlauhafen (Walter Salzmann, Dieter Kempf, Heinrich Blank, Klaus Daughtermann , Paul Deblitz, Siegfried Kuhlmey-Becker, Manfred Bartholomae, Rolf Alles, Stm. Hans Bichelmeier ) .

The trained businessman Salzmann competed around 30 races each as a helmsman and as a rower. He received the silver bay leaf in 1953 . His club made him an honorary member in 1998 and in 2012 awarded him the golden badge of honor of the German Rowing Association for 75 years of membership .
