Walter Santesso
Walter Santesso (born February 27, 1931 in Padua , † January 20, 2008 there ) was an Italian actor , director and screenwriter . His best-known role is that of the pushy press photographer Paparazzo in Federico Fellini's film The Sweet Life .
Santesso's acting career began in 1951 with a supporting role in L'ultima sentenza . After further minor roles, he then played the press photographer Paparazzo in 1960 under the direction of Federico Fellini in Das süße Leben . The name of this role established itself in the following years as a name for photographers who use questionable methods in the hunt for pictures of celebrities.
Great successes as an actor failed to materialize for Santesso in the next few years. After appearing in front of the camera for the last time for Mercanti di vergini , he directed two more films. The more successful of these two productions is La carica delle patate . For this children's film, Santesso was awarded the main prize of the Giffoni Film Festival (largest European children's film festival).
