Walter Schürmeyer

Walter Schürmeyer (born October 4, 1889 in Krefeld , † July 17, 1976 in Königswinter ) was a German librarian and art historian.

Schürmeyer studied art history, philosophy and history in Heidelberg, Munich, Oxford, Berlin and Marburg. In 1913 he worked as an assistant in the Reiff Museum in Aachen . In 1914 he received his doctorate on The College of Cardinals under Pius II at the University of Marburg .

He later became director of the library for art and technology in Frankfurt. From 1948 to 1951 he was chairman of the German Society for Documentation (DGD). In addition to his library and documentary activities, he dealt with woodcuts and linocuts.

Schürmeyers parents were Anna Schürmeyer (born Schorlemmer) and the Real school professor Franz Schürmeyer.
