Walter Schlenkenbrock

Walter Schlenkenbrock (* May 7, 1925 ; † November 23, 2015 in Düsseldorf ) was a German banker and from 1970 to 1990 chairman of the board of the Deutsche Apotheker- und Ärztebank . He also worked for various other medical institutions and held various positions for the MSV Duisburg .

Main occupation in banking

Schlenkenbrock studied economics and social sciences in Cologne and then trained as a bank clerk from 1954 to 1957. He was then employed by the Deutsche Apotheker- und Ärztebank and was accepted into its board in 1965. In 1970 he was elected to the head of this body and held the office of chairman of the board until his retirement in 1990. During and after his many years of service at the bank, he received numerous awards and honorary degrees and, in addition to his main job, held various other offices. In this respect he was chairman of the board of the German Rheumatism Aid, which is the support association of the German Rheumatism League , and was an honorary chairman of the board of trustees of the GASTRO-League . He also held positions of responsibility at other foundations.

He was the bearer of the badge of honor of the German medical profession and the badge of honor of the pharmacists. The state awarded Schlenkenbrock the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Federal Cross of Merit in 1st class.

Engagement at MSV Duisburg

In addition to his voluntary work in the medical field, Schlenkenbrock also worked for many years as a functionary for the football club MSV Duisburg. In the mid-1980s he was chairman of the board of directors of what was then the second division. 1986 Duisburg had to accept the first relegation to the third-class Oberliga Nordrhein, which resulted in significant changes in the club and also the financial reorganization was a priority. Schlenkenbrock played an important role as chairman of the economic council. From the 1990s he was a member of the MSV's supervisory board and was its chairman for many years. In June 2013, the now 88-year-old finally resigned from the committee.

The MSV Duisburg honored him for his services with the golden badge of honor and the club's golden ring of honor. In addition, the functionary received the town's sports plaque in 1995. In 2014 he became an honorary member of the association and in September of this year he was also admitted to the honorary council of the MSV. Schlenkenbrock died in November 2015 at the age of 90 in Düsseldorf.
